Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 12, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information VidPeek (“we”, “us”) collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using VidPeek you agree to this policy.
Information we collect
- Account information: your email address, and your name and profile picture if you sign in with Google.
- Your searches: the questions you type and the results we produce, so we can show your history and improve the service.
- Usage data: basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type, and how you interact with the app.
- Billing data: if you subscribe or buy credits, our payment processors handle your card details. We never see or store your full card number.
How we use your information
- To provide the service — understanding your question and finding matching videos.
- To manage your account, plan, credits, and search history.
- To process payments and prevent fraud and abuse.
- To send you essential service emails (for example, account verification and receipts).
- To improve VidPeek's accuracy and reliability.
Third-party services
To run VidPeek we rely on trusted providers, each with their own privacy practices:
- AI model providers (e.g. OpenRouter, Anthropic, Google, Groq) — your question and relevant video transcript text are sent to the configured model to understand intent and verify matches.
- YouTube — we retrieve public video information and captions to evaluate content. VidPeek is not affiliated with or endorsed by YouTube or Google.
- Payment processors (Paystack, Dodo Payments, and/or WorldFirst) — to process subscriptions and credit purchases.
- Resend — to deliver transactional email.
Caption downloads from your browser
While a search is running, your browser may download the caption text of candidate videos directly from YouTube, rather than our servers downloading it first and passing it on. This keeps searches fast and lets us run the service without the cost of commercial proxy networks.
What this means for you, stated plainly:
- YouTube can see your IP address and approximate location for these requests, in the same way it would if you opened the video in a tab. YouTube's handling of that data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
- We do not send your YouTube cookies or account details. These requests are made without credentials and without a referrer, so they are not linked to any YouTube account you may be signed into.
- Only caption text is transferred — no video or audio is downloaded, and nothing about your search wording is sent to YouTube.
- It is not required. If your browser, extensions, or network block these requests, our servers fetch the captions instead and your results are identical.
The caption text your browser retrieves is sent to us and stored in a shared cache so the same video does not need to be fetched again for anyone. Captions are public content published by the video's creator; the cache holds no information about you.
Cookies
We use an essential cookie to keep you signed in. We also use cookies to understand how the site is used and, where ads are shown, to support advertising. You can clear cookies anytime by signing out or clearing your browser data.
You can decline optional VidPeek analytics from the cookie banner. When declined, we stop writing optional analytics events and clear attribution cookies; essential account, security, billing, and support cookies still operate.
Advertising
Some pages of this site (such as our blog) may display ads served by third-party vendors, including Google. These vendors use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to our site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You can also opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized ads at aboutads.info/choices.
Data retention
We keep your account and search history until you delete your account or ask us to remove it. Anonymous “peek” searches made before signing up are not tied to an account.
Cached video captions are kept separately from your account. They are public content belonging to the video's creator, contain no personal data about you, and are not deleted when you close your account because they are not yours.
Your rights
You can access, correct, export, or delete your personal data by contacting us. We will respond within a reasonable time. Where required by law (such as GDPR or CCPA), we honor your rights to access and deletion.
Children
VidPeek is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
